Introduction about Africa

Africa is the world's second-largest and second most-populous continent, after Asia. Covers 6.0% of the Earth's total surface area, and 20.4% of the total land area. It accounts for about 14% of the world's human population. The continent is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea to the north, the Suez Canal and the Red Sea to the northeast, the Indian Ocean to the southeast, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west.

Africa is widely regarded in the scientific community to be birthplace of humans and the Hominidae tree.

Climate of Africa

The climate of Africa, more than that of any other continent, is generally uniform. This results from the position of the continent in the Tropical Zone, the impact of cool ocean currents, and the absence of mountain chains serving as climatic barriers. Seven main African climatic zones can be distinguished.

One more fact is that a large portion is on the equator. The coastal areas are humid because of the water and heat. The inland areas a dry because of the lack of water and immense heat.
